BCBA Practicalities: Scheduling, Fees, and Pearson VUE

The content is the hard part; the logistics shouldn't be. Here's exactly what it costs, how scheduling works, and how to avoid the small, avoidable ways candidates lose money and momentum.

The two fees

There are two separate payments, to two different organizations:

The $245 goes to the BACB when you apply; the $125 goes to Pearson VUE once you're approved and scheduling your seat. Budget for both, plus any prep materials.

From approval to appointment

1. Get approved. After the BACB approves your application, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and scheduling instructions, and your two-year authorization window opens.

2. Schedule with Pearson VUE. Use your BACB Candidate ID to book an available in-person appointment on the Pearson VUE BACB page. The BACB cannot schedule, reschedule, or cancel for you — that's all done through Pearson.

3. Mind the attempt rules. Within your window you may take the exam up to eight times, with a minimum 30-day wait between attempts.

Reschedule and cancellation fees

Life happens, but Pearson charges more the closer you move to the appointment. For the BCBA:

The lesson: only book once you're genuinely close to ready, and if you must move it, do it early to avoid the charge entirely.

Test-center rules that catch people out

• Bring valid ID. You must present one form of valid, government-issued, original (not digital) photo ID with your signature, and the name must match your BACB account exactly. A name mismatch or expired ID can get you turned away — with fees forfeited.

• Arrive early. Give yourself 30+ minutes for check-in and ID verification.

• Do the demo first. Pearson offers a demo/tutorial test so you can practice navigating the computer-based interface before exam day — take it, so the format costs you zero cognitive load when it counts.

• Know the clock. As covered in How is the BCBA Exam Structured?, your four hours include the tutorial, terms and conditions, and breaks.

A simple pre-booking checklist

• Application approved and ATT received

• Consistently scoring 80%+ across full-length mocks, balanced across domains

• Appointment booked within your two-year window

• Valid ID whose name matches your BACB account exactly

• Pearson demo/tutorial completed

• Test-center location, parking, and arrival time confirmed
